Many of us have seen documentaries about how fast food stores in low income areas that show how they cause residents to become obese. The truth of the matter is that fast food is not that healthy at all for people in these areas.

Poor people tend to have less to choose from when it comes to eating out. Many times, they will choose to chase the lowest price and a nearby location. As a result, that cheeseburger they bought for a buck seems like a great buy, but it is loaded with calories and it is not at all healthy.

There has also been more than just a documentary over this subject. In fact, other sources have involved themselves, including the New York City Council. They passed regulations which require fast food stores to have to label their food with nutrition information.

Sadly, even with the new labeling regulations, a survey showed that New York?s poor haven?t really changed their eating patterns, and continue to make unhealthy choices with their food.

Businesses like KFC and McDonalds assume that the survey is incorrect and that customers are making healthier choices when they order food. However, this is not consistent. Why do they have different information than that from independent surveyors.

One possibility for the inconsistency in the numbers is that the unhealthy chains include the figures from the healthy ones. This means that places like Subway, which offer healthy food are being combined with the data from places that don?t serve healthy food. This makes the scores inconsistent and influences the results.

What is happening in the city is that they are using reports from neighborhoods with better food choices and combining those results with the lower income resident areas that don?t have the same food choices.

In the end, what the City is doing is pointless. The poor are still continuing to make bad choices for food.
