Veteran Sports Journalist Will Cover Local Sports, Make Regular Appearances on FOX Sports Southwest
Anthony Andro, a veteran sports journalist who covered the Texas Rangers for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, has joined FoxSportsSouthwest.com; it was announced today by FOX Sports Southwest Senior Vice President/General Manager Jon Heidtke.
?We?re excited to add a successful and a proven sports journalist like Anthony to our digital team as we continue to expand and improve our online content?
Andro, who spent nearly 12 years at the Star-Telegram covering the Rangers and motorsports, will write columns and cover the Rangers, college football, auto racing and other local sports in the Southwest region for FoxSportsSouthwest.com. He?ll also make regular appearances on FOX Sports Southwest.
?We?re excited to add a successful and a proven sports journalist like Anthony to our digital team as we continue to expand and improve our online content,? said Heidtke. ?His knowledge of the Rangers and the Southwest sports scene and the contacts he?s developed over the years enhances our commitment to owning the local sports conversation. We look forward to Anthony?s contributions to our digital and television platforms.?
Andro gained national recognition last year for his multifaceted reporting skills during the Rangers? sale. He covered the auction of the team via Twitter and picked up 3,000 followers that day. His updates from the courtroom were the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter that night.
He?s been on the Rangers beat since Ron Washington?s first season as manager and covered the team?s World Series run last season. As a motorsports writer, he?s attended every race at Texas Motor Speedway since 2001 and also has covered the Daytona 500 and NASCAR events from Talladega to Phoenix to Fontana.
Andro stated his sports writing career in 1992 at the Port Arthur News covering high school sports. He joined the Star-Telegram in 1999 where he covered high school sports before moving to the Rangers beat in 2007.
?I?m looking forward to the next phase of my career with FOX Sports,? said Andro. ?This is an unbelievable opportunity for me to expand my writing and reporting to a much broader on-line audience. I?m happy that I?ll continue to cover the teams and sports that I?ve been following since I started my sports writing career.?
Andro graduated from Texas A&M in 1992 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism.
FoxSportsSouthwest.com launched in 2009 to supplement and expand FOX Sports Southwest?s local television coverage of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, Big 12 Conference, Conference USA, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA).
