Bookstore Anywhere will offer novels, magazines, manga content and more following its launch in the territory next month, Nikkei reports (via Siliconera).
Librica, a company that lists Square Enix among its shareholders, is developing the free service for release through Nintendo's eShop. Books can be purchased through in-app transactions, but there will be some complementary titles in stock.
Bookstore Anywhere will offer more than 100 manga series at launch, but Librica will introduce a range of non-manga books and magazines at a later date.
Last month, it was reported that Nintendo holds a 70% share of the Japanese hardware market thanks in no small part to the commercial performance of the 3DS.
Bookstore Anywhere will be available for 3DS in Japan on October 20, but it is yet to be confirmed for other territories.
