Qatar questions need for alcohol in WCup stadiums

(AP) ? A top 2022 World Cup official says he doesn't see "the reason" for selling alcohol in stadiums, but expects it's an issue that will be worked out with FIFA in the coming years.

Hassan al-Thawadi, general secretary of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, refused to say definitely whether alcohol would be provided at matches during the world's premier soccer tournament. He only would say the country was aiming to put on an event where "everyone will be able to have a great time, have fun and be exposed to Qatari culture."

A nation with conservative Muslim traditions, Qatar has a significant population of foreign workers, but limits the sale of alcohol mostly to five-star hotels.
