Noble Energy finishes business negotiations with Consol
The two firms will work together on the Marcellus Shale as a result of the deal.

Noble Energy has confirmed it has agreed on a joint venture deal with Consol Energy that will see the two develop the Marcellus Shale site.
The former is to pay the latter $1.07 billion (?649 million) for a 50 per cent stake in its 663,350 net undeveloped acres.
Under the terms of the business negotiations, Noble - which was established in 1932 - will also fund $2.13 billion of Consol's future drilling and completion costs at the location over an eight-year period, which is one of the largest natural gas fields ever discovered.
Charles Davidson, chairman and chief executive officer of Noble, noted his company is "excited" by the opportunities this partnership will offer.
"The Marcellus, combined with our ongoing developments in the DJ basin and deepwater Gulf of Mexico, will provide important balance to our rapidly expanding international programmes," he added.
Mr Davidson continued by saying the deal improves Noble's US portfolio.

PHOENIX - Paul Goldschmidt struck first, sending the game to extra innings with a dramatic homer. Chris Young took over from there, finishing off Arizona's third consecutive win with an impressive drive of his own.

Goldschmidt belted a tying two-run shot with two out in the ninth and Young hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning to give the Diamondbacks an 8-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Thursday night.
"That'll make you smile," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said.
Houston was one strike away from wrapping up a 5-3 victory before pinch-hitter Goldschmidt drove a 2-2 pitch from Mark Melancon off the second-deck fa?ade in left for his second career homer.
"Once it got to two strikes I was trying to battle and put something in play," Goldschmidt said. "As you see more and more pitches you feel more comfortable."
Goldschmidt had been anything but comfortable during the four-game series, managing two hits in 12 at-bats and striking out while flailing at breaking pitches on Wednesday.
Against Melancon, Goldschmidt fouled off several off-speed pitches before finally getting something he could square up.
"He left a fastball up over the middle and I was able to hit it," Goldschmidt said. "I've tried to make adjustments throughout my whole career. There's not a big difference between a foul ball or a home run."
Young also had been struggling. He began the day in a 4-for-25 rut and the homer was his first since July 2 in Oakland, a span of 114 at-bats.
"Just because I don't have a home run in a while, I'm not going to try and hit a home run," Young said. "I've had times when I've gone a month without a home run and I've had times when I've had seven in a week."
Ryan Roberts and Justin Upton led off the 10th with consecutive singles off Jeff Fulchino (1-4). Sergio Escalona came in and retired Miguel Montero before Young hit a drive to left for his sixth career game-ending homer.
"We didn't have any plan other than to get ahead of the count, make a good pitch and make the location," Escalona said. "I didn't. He hurt me. I tried to go away and I missed the spot."
J.J. Putz (2-2) pitched a scoreless 10th inning for the NL West-leading Diamondbacks, who moved a full game ahead of idle San Francisco.
"I give these kids a lot of credit for their resiliency," Gibson said. "The important thing is they keep grinding through."
Jason Bourgeois and Jose Altuve each had three hits for Houston, which wasted a solid start by Brett Myers and lost their third straight game. Carlos Lee and J.D. Martinez had two RBIs apiece.
Bourgeois helped the Astros take a 5-1 lead in the seventh when he tripled under the glove of a diving Upton in right and scored on Altuve's third single of the night.
But the Diamondbacks responded with two runs in the eighth. Roberts doubled in Willie Bloomquist and scored on Montero's bloop single to center.
Melancon struck out Kelly Johnson to start the ninth and Xavier Nady singled off third baseman Jimmy Paredes' glove. Melancon then struck out Gerardo Parra before Goldschmidt connected.
It was Melancon's fourth blown save in 15 attempts and his first since June 26 against Tampa Bay.
Arizona starter Joe Saunders allowed the leadoff hitter to reach in four of the first five innings and it came back to haunt him in the Astros' three-run fifth.
Saunders walked Myers and Bourgeois followed with a single off the glove of a sliding Upton. Altuve reached on a bunt hit to load the bases and Martinez doubled off the left-field wall, scoring Myers and Bourgeois for a 3-0 lead.
Altuve scored when Lee lined a pitch off Saunders' glove for an RBI groundout.
Bloomquist singled in a run in the bottom half against Myers, who was charged with three runs and six hits in 7 2-3 innings.
"He battled through the whole game and really did a good job," Astros manager Brad Mills said of Myers, who is winless in 10 starts since June 17.
Notes: Montero threw out two runners trying to steal second and the Astros were 1 for 4 on stolen-base attempts overall. . Martinez was thrown out at home on a failed suicide squeeze attempt in the second. . Martinez made the defensive play of the night when he tracked a fly ball by Roberts into foul territory in left, had his feet slide out from under him but still reached back over his head while lying prone to make the catch. ... Martinez is the first player in Astros history to hit four homers and drive in 12 runs in his first 10 career games. . The Diamondbacks claimed SS Tommy Manzella off waivers from the Astros and optioned the 28-year-old to Triple-A Reno. To make room for Manzella, the Diamondbacks moved Juan Gutierrez (right shoulder inflammation) to the 60-day disabled list. . RHP Ian Kennedy is scheduled to pitch for Arizona on Friday against the New York Mets. Kennedy has won six straight starts, the longest active streak in the majors. . RHP Dillon Gee, the scheduled starter for the Mets, has lost four of his last six decisions.

Nemesis No More? Comet-Hurling 'Death Star' Most Likely a Myth (SPACE.com)
There is no so-called "death star" lurking at the outer reaches of the solar system, flinging dangerous comets at Earth on a periodic basis, a new study finds.
Some scientists have invoked the existence of such a star, also known as Nemesis, to explain a perceived periodicity in mass extinctions on Earth. As Nemesis cruises through space, the theory goes, it regularly disturbs comets in the faraway Oort Cloud, sending large numbers of the icy wanderers on a collision course with Earth.
The problem with that idea, according to the new study, is that Earth shows no evidence that giant impacts have occurred with any regularity. The supposed pattern appears to be a statistical artifact. [Video: End of Days in 2012? NASA Scientist Says No]
"There is a tendency for people to find patterns in nature that do not exist," said study author Coryn Bailer-Jones, of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany, in a statement. "Unfortunately, in certain situations traditional statistics plays to that particular weakness."
Dangerous impacts
Earth has, of course, been hammered by asteroids and comets throughout its 4.5-billion-year history. One such giant impact is thought to have wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
The idea of Nemesis sprang from studying such mass extinctions. Back in the 1980s, scientists reported a periodicity in these catastrophic events, saying they appear to have occurred every 26 million years or so over the last 250 million years.
A companion star to the sun could be responsible for this pattern, some researchers thought, if it made regular passes near the Oort Cloud, the icy repository of comets shelling the solar system. [Best Close Encounters of the Comet Kind]
Some studies of Earth's craters have supported the Nemesis idea, finding evidence of periodic variations in the impact rate. Every so often ? the numbers vary between 13 million and 50 million years ? the impact rate seems to go up substantially.
The new study, however, contradicts those claims, finding that Nemesis ? like the rogue planet Nibiru that some conspiracy theorists say will destroy Earth next year ? is probably a myth.
Bailer-Jones used Bayesian analysis ? a different kind of statistical technique ? and found no such pattern. Rather, his results show a different trend: From about 250 million years ago to the present, the impact rate, as judged by the number of craters of different ages, increases steadily.
Impacts on the rise?

There are two possible explanations for this apparent increase, according to the study, which was published online in June in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
On the one hand, smaller craters erode more easily, and older craters have had more time to erode away. So the trend could simply reflect the fact that larger, younger craters are easier to find than smaller, older ones.
"If we look only at craters larger than 35 kilometers (22 miles)?and younger than 400 million years, which are less affected by erosion and infilling, we find no such trend," Bailer-Jones said.
On the other hand, the increasing impact rate could be real. For example, analyses of impact craters on the moon? where there are no geological processes that can cover up or fill in craters ? show the same pattern.
Whatever is causing the apparent increase in impacts, the new study casts doubt on the existence of Nemesis.
"From the crater record, there is no evidence for Nemesis," Bailer-Jones said. "What remains is the intriguing question of whether or not impacts have become ever more frequent over the past 250 million years."
It's still possible that the sun could have an undiscovered large companion lurking far away, perhaps a red dwarf star or an odd failed star known as a brown dwarf. But it's not likely that such a companion has wreaked havoc on Earth, according to the study.

U.S. requests North Korea talks on war remains: report (Reuters)
SEOUL (Reuters) ? The United States has requested talks with North Korea on ways to search for the remains of American troops killed during the 1950-53 Korean War, a South Korean media report said Tuesday, amid an easing of tensions on the peninsula.
Joint recovery efforts were halted in 2005 after Washington cited the uncertain environment created by the North's nuclear program.
Washington's request came barely a week after U.S. envoy Stephen Bosworth met veteran North Korean nuclear negotiator Kim Kye-gwan in New York. Both sides said the talks, the first such contact since 2009, had been constructive.
"The U.S. recently sent a letter requesting a meeting on resuming remains recovery in North Korea," Major Carie Parker, spokeswoman at the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO), told Yonhap News Agency in Washington.
"We have received no response from North Korean officials," she added.
Another DPMO official said the U.S. has invited North Korean officials to the talks as early as next month, Yonhap reported.
The North first indicated it was open to restarting the talks, leading the U.S. to formally propose the meeting, according to the official.
Nearly 8,000 U.S. service members are listed as missing from the war, the remains of more than half of whom are estimated to be buried in the secretive state.
Tensions have eased on the peninsula after spiking to their highest level in years in 2010 when 50 South Koreans were killed in two attacks.
Following the recent U.S.-North Korean talks in New York, Pyongyang said it was willing to resume regional nuclear disarmament talks at an early date, without preconditions.
The so-called six-party talks, which also involve China, Japan and Russia, collapsed over two years ago shortly after the North tested a nuclear device and a long range missile.
The two Koreas' nuclear envoys also met for the first time in two years late last month, raising hopes for a restart of the process that offers Pyongyang aid and diplomatic relations with Washington in return for scrapping its nuclear program.
U.S. officials have emphasized they are in no rush to restart the six-party talks, and South Korea's top nuclear envoy said that it was unlikely the recent diplomatic activities would produce breakthroughs.

Step 1
The first step to follow, to learn to be good parents is to slow down and you get to know your child. Many times parents forget that children do not run at the same timeas adults. Children are very relaxed when it comes time t in no hurry to go anywhere, nor a notion of time. The kids just go at your own pace. Observe your child in a position to your child, you learn to better understand your child. The more you know and understand, your child will be better equipped to deal with their moods and ability to handle, so do not expect too much from them.
Step2
The second thing you need to learn to do when you learn to be good parents want, is to accept your child's feelings and desires. All too often it's easier to say to parents, there is nothing to fear, or that there is no reason for them to be crazy. For information on how to be good parents, you have to accept their feelings, which includes recognition of their feelings. For example, say it is OK to be sad that her friend had to gohome. To tell them it's okay to feel, in a certain way because you are showing great parenting your child is in order so that they too have their own feelings and desires.
Step 3
The last thing you need to learn, so you can learn a good parent, let your child know what is expected of them. Explain to them as you would expect to act in certain situations, even if it could not be in compliance, it is important to tell them whatexpect and why you expect that behavior. You should also set clear limits in hiring expectations. This is important because it is the child that their actions have consequences, shows. For example, if a few small "because they were crazy, you must have a consequence for such behavior. Talk to them, because this behavior is not acceptable to them more and make the right decisions.

Syrian tanks pound city, Saudi king condemns violence (Reuters)
AMMAN (Reuters) ? President Bashar al-Assad extended a tank onslaught in Syria's Sunni Muslim tribal heartland on Monday, residents said, in an escalating crackdown on protesters that prompted an extraordinary rebuke from the Saudi king warning the Syrian leader to adopt reforms or risk defeat.
King Abdullah, an absolute ruler, broke Arab silence after the bloodiest week of the almost five-month uprising for more political freedoms in Syria, demanding an end to the bloodshed and recalling the Saudi ambassador from Damascus.
It was the sharpest criticism the oil giant has directed against any fellow Arab state since a tide of pro-democracy unrest began to sweep across the Middle East in January, toppling autocrats in Tunisia and Egypt, kindling civil war in Libya and rattling entrenched elites throughout the region.
"What is happening in Syria is not acceptable for Saudi Arabia," Abdullah said in a written statement read out on Al Arabiya satellite television.
"Syria should think wisely before it's too late and issue and enact reforms that are not merely promises but actual reforms," he said. "Either it chooses wisdom on its own or it will be pulled down into the depths of turmoil and loss."
His statement followed similar messages since Saturday from the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
It came as Syrian tanks and troops poured into the eastern Sunni city of Deir al-Zor in the latest stage of a campaign to crush centers of protest against 41 years of rule by the Assad family and domination by his Alawite minority community.
"Armored vehicles are shelling the al-Hawiqa district heavily with their ... guns. Private hospitals are closed and people are afraid to send the wounded to state facilities because they are infested with secret police," Mohammad, a resident, told Reuters by telephone.
The al-Joura neighborhood of Deir al-Zor, which straddles the Euphrates River, was also hit hard by Assad's forces and thousands of residents of both districts had fled, he said with crump of heavy-caliber weaponry audible in the background.
He said at least 65 people had been killed since tanks and armored vehicles barreled into the provincial capital, 400 km (250 miles) northeast of Damascus, on Sunday, crumpling makeshift barricades and opening fire.
The assault on the city, in an oil-producing province bordering Iraq, took place a week after tanks stormed Hama, where residents say scores have been killed.
With Arab leaders strikingly mum and an international response limited to verbal condemnation and sanctions on Syria's ruling hierarchy, Assad had faced few obstacles in stretching the military campaign against disaffected cities and towns into the fasting month of Ramadan, until the Saudi king intervened.
Relations between Sunni Saudi Arabia and Syria's Alawite elite have been tense since the assassination in 2005 of Rafik al-Hariri, a Western-backed Lebanese Sunni statesman who also had Saudi nationality.
Riyadh backs Hariri's son Saad while Assad, along with Iran's clerical rulers, support the armed Lebanese Shi'ite Muslim guerrilla group Hezbollah. The Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam. Most Syrians are Sunni Muslim.
A United Nations investigation initially implicated Syrian security officials in the killing of Hariri and an international tribunal indicted members of Hezbollah. Damascus and the Shi'ite group denied involvement.
During months of demonstrations in Deir al-Zor, protesters tore up pictures of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and of Iran's president, witnesses and activists said, venting Sunni disquiet at Assad's policy aligning with Shi'ite players.
AUTHORITIES DENY CITY ATTACKED
Syrian authorities denied that any Deir al-Zor assault had taken place. The official state news agency said "not a single tank has entered Deir al-Zor" and reports of tanks in the city were "the work of provocateur satellite channels".
Syria has barred most journalists, making it hard to confirm events reported by either side in the conflict.
The Syrian Revolution Coordinating Union said 50 people had been killed in Deir al-Zor on Sunday and at least 13 had been killed in a separate, tank-led assault on villages in the central Houla Plain, near the city of Homs.
"The numbers of casualties are escalating by the hour," activist Suhair al-Atassi, a member of the Coordinating Union, said by phone from Damascus on Sunday.
Another activist said: "The Deir al-Zor assault could be the turning point where the repression will backfire and people will start taking up arms against the regime. Assad cannot repress a whole nation like this, and expect people to watch as thousands get killed or disappear."
Syrian authorities say they have faced armed attacks since the protests first erupted in March, blaming armed saboteurs for most of the civilian deaths and accusing them of killing 500 security personnel.
State television broadcast footage on Sunday of mutilated bodies floating in the Orontes river in Hama, saying 17 police had been ambushed and killed in the city.
Human rights groups have reported some cases of gunmen attacking security forces, but say Assad's forces have killed at least 1,600 civilians taking part in overwhelmingly peaceful protests. The United States says the figure exceeds 2,000.
In Deir al-Zor, authorities allowed local tribes to arm as a counterweight to a Kurdish population further northeast.
But relations between Assad's government and the province deteriorated after years of water shortages, corruption and mismanagement of resources devastated agriculture and led to the internal displacement of up to a million people.
Assad, who has repeatedly described the uprising as a foreign conspiracy to divide Syria, defended the army's campaign. He was quoted by the official national news agency on Sunday as saying his forces were fulfilling a national duty by "dealing with outlaws and convicts ... who seal off cities and terrorise the population".
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who cultivated close ties with Assad but has sharply criticised the crackdown, said Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu would visit Syria on Tuesday.
"Our message will be decisively delivered," he said, drawing a rebuke from an Assad adviser, who described the Turkish statement as unbalanced.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke to Davutoglu on Sunday, the State Department said, asking him to "reinforce" Washington's position that Syria must immediately return its military to barracks and release all prisoners of concern.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told Assad by phone on Saturday he was alarmed by the escalating violence and demanded he rein in the army. He repeated his appeal on Monday during a visit to Japan.

J.Lo says loved herself enough to quit marriage (Reuters)
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? Jennifer Lopez remains a romantic despite her recent split with husband Marc Anthony, but she said finding a way to love herself is what gave her the courage to walk away from the seven-year marriage.
In her first interview since announcing their breakup in July, the actress and singer told Vanity Fair magazine that both she and Anthony had worked hard to keep the marriage alive and that he "will always hold a special place in my heart."
But it was Lopez who apparently decided to end it.
"I'm a hopeless romantic and passionate person when it comes to love," Lopez told the magazine in an interview for its September issue.
"It's not that I didn't love myself before. Sometimes we don't realize that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now," she added.
The marriage was the third for Lopez, 42, and produced twins Emme and Max in 2008.
But the "On the Floor" singer and "American Idol" judge said she remains "an eternal optimist about love."
"It's still my biggest dream. I am positive -- determined to move forward with my life, bring up my babies, and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong," she said.

Drug cuts brain lesions in MS patients: Actelion study (Reuters)
ZURICH (Reuters) ? Swiss biotech company Actelion Ltd said on Tuesday a mid-stage study showed one of its drugs under development helped reduce new inflammatory brain lesions in a targeted group of multiple sclerosis patients.
The study found Actelion's Ponesimod drug, a selective S1P1 receptor agonist, achieved its primary trial goal of reducing the number of new active inflammatory lesions in the brain of patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
"This is the first report of a selective S1P1 receptor agonist reporting a statistically significant treatment effect in patients suffering from relapsing multiple sclerosis," said Martin Clozel, Actelion's managing director and chief scientific officer.
The achievement of its primary endpoints in the trial will allow Ponesimor to proceed to the final stage of clinical development, the company said.
Actelion is trying to cut its dependence on key drug Tracleer, which treats a rare heart and lung disorder and rakes in more than $1 billion a year, but said recently competition from rival drugs is hitting its U.S. sales.
In a separate release, the company said Joseph Scodari had resigned from the board for personal reasons.
