FC Dallas ends 13-game winless streak

Associated Press Sports

updated 11:23 p.m. ET July 14, 2012

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) - FC Dallas walked off the field with the same demeanor as it had the previous 13 games.

There was no fist-pumping or any emotion.

Only this time FC Dallas had won.

"At this point, there was no reason to celebrate," Fabian Castillo said. "We started the game being sixth points out of fifth place."

Castillo scored in the 81st minute and FC Dallas ended a 13-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Colorado on Saturday.

"Once we start collecting more wins, then we can start thinking about celebrating," Castillo said.

Castillo assisted on the game-tying goal by Carlos Rodriguez in the 60th minute. Rodriguez also had an assist for FC Dallas (4-9-7).

FC Dallas had not won since beating Montreal on April 14. The team was 0-7-6 since.

"We had fought in every game and just didn't find a way to get the win or we beat ourselves or got fatigued," FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said about the streak. "We tried to keep the pressure off these guys, knowing we had been going without six or seven starters."

Omar Cummings scored in the 50th minute for Colorado (7-11-1) The Rapids lost for the third straight time, matching their season high.

"It is frustrating to see what has happened in our other games and not to get the results," Colorado coach Oscar Pareja said. "We do a lot of good things and we can't finish."

Colorado won the earlier meeting 2-0 on May 6 in Dallas.

Castillo took the cross from Rodriguez in the slot and drilled a shot past keeper Matt Pickens. It was the second goal of the year for Castillo.

"The ball got deflected into space where there was two FC Dallas players," Castillo said. "I was fortunate to get on top of the ball, have some separation and put it in."

Ricardo Villar had just missed a shot for FC Dallas off a steal by Brek Shea in the 48th minute when Conor Casey got the ball on the FC Dallas side of the field.

Casey passed to Cummings along the west sideline. Cummings took several strides and connected on a shot between the legs of goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

Rodriguez tied it with his first goal of the year in the 60th minute off a cross from Castillo. Castillo found Rodriguez alone for a header.

"This group is funny," Hyndman said. "This group seem to play their best when they falls behind."

Hartman made a leaping save to deny Cummings a potential go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute.

The Rapids dominated play in the first half, but had nothing to show for it. Cummings sailed a header past the right post in the 10th minute off a cross from Drew Moor.

Jaime Castrillon missed the right post with a header in the 13th minute and pushed a header over the crossbar in the 18th minute. Martin Rivero's corner kick set up a header by Jeff Larentowicz, but the shot went well beyond the left post in the 24th minute.

The best chance of the half for FC Dallas came in the 36th minute when Castillo got a pass to Shea in front of the goal after getting past Colorado defender Marvell Wynne. Shea couldn't control the ball well enough and managed a harmless shot into the stands.

NBA Education is Andre Drummond?s Main Priority

After being selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond is getting a crash course in NBA basketball this summer. At just 18 years old, Drummond is viewed as an athletic but raw center that will need some seasoning before being able to produce at the NBA level.

Less than a week into Summer League play, Drummond has proven to be a project, but has also displayed the size and athletic ability that made him a top-10 pick. At nearly 7-feet tall, Drummond?s combo of height and skill makes him one of the most highly anticipated players of the 2012 draft. Even though Pistons? coaches have been busy focusing on the fundamentals with Drummond, the former Connecticut Huskies? big man believes he?s on the right track with his ?new family? with Detroit.

?This has been great,? Drummond told HOOPSWORLD. ?Just being out here with Detroit and being out here with my new family, my new brothers and my new home. I?m just learning a whole lot every single day. I?ve learned things I?ve never heard of my entire life within three days of being with Detroit. It?s just been a great learning process for me. Just being on the floor with the guys and soaking up everything that?s been told to me ? it?s just been great.?

Being coachable early on his career could be one of Drummond?s greatest strengths. The new terminology at the NBA hasn?t been lost on Drummond and that could pay dividends early on in his career.

Early on this summer, some veterans on the Pistons came out and practiced with the team?s new additions. Drummond feels this extra practice time and one-on-one tutelage has been pivotal in incorporating him into this Pistons? team.

?It was fun seeing Charlie Villanueva there,? Drummond said. ?Greg Monroe? [Jason] Maxiell came; Chris Douglas-Roberts came so it?s just been great. They kind of showed us that it?s not easy. What we?re walking into is a whole different ballgame than what we do in college.

?That kind of gave me a rude awakening, now knowing what I?m about to get into over the next few weeks.?

That ?rude awakening? is to be expected for a teenager embarking on his first voyage with an NBA squad. Coaches for the Pistons have stressed to Drummond that this summer is a learning opportunity for the young center and have told him not to get too down on himself for mistakes along the way.

?Just keep running the floor well, play hard,? Drummond told HOOPSWORLD of his coaches? expectations. ?Rebound the ball, block shots. Scoring will come to me so [coaches just preach] not to get down on myself if I miss shots or whatever because it will come to me.?

?

While both Villanueva and Monroe are already in the frontcourt rotation for Detroit, Drummond believes his skill set translates with either of the two players on the floor.

?We complement each other pretty well,? Drummond said of his low post teammates. ?We all do similar things on the floor. We all can [play] interchangeable positions so I think this will be a great learning experience for me just trying to feed off what Charlie does and what Greg does because they both do similar things. I just think it?s going to be great to be able to learn from those two guys.?

Overall, Drummond believes the young, pedigreed competition he will be facing this summer is going to help to mold him into a better NBA player.

?It?s fun for me,? Drummond said. ?Playing against some of the top guys that have been in the draft already? Just going against some of these guys has been a great experience for me to try to get myself better as a player.

?I?m only 18 and some of them are in their mid-20?s, so going up against those guys is a great learning experience and great experience for me altogether.?

For a player with the youth, explosiveness and potential Drummond possesses, the Summer League should only assist in the young center?s development. Drummond continues to say all the right things and that positive attitude and willingness to learn from the professionals will pay dividends.

Although still learning the game of basketball at the NBA level, Drummond?s inherent willingness to learn combined with his innate size, athletic ability and speed is exceptional. This combination has the possibility of culminating in an outstanding player on the NBA stage.

Experience is the key here for Drummond, as only extensive playing time against NBA-level competition will prepare the young center for life against the best basketball players in the world.

At 18 years old, time is clearly on Drummond?s side.

'True Blood' Comic-Con Trailer: New Romances, New Showdown In Season 5, Plus Meloni Talks 'SVU' (VIDEO)

Before the cast of HBO's "True Blood" (Sundays at 9 p.m. ET) took the stage at Comic-Con on Saturday night, showrunner Alan Ball came out to unveil a new trailer, filled with sneak peeks at what's to come in Season 5, which is already underway.

In the "True Blood" Comic-Con trailer, which you can watch above, it looks like Sookie wants to become human (and maybe does), Tara is working as a stripper (or a bondage pole dancer), Russell is back and quite thirsty, Lafayette is having a seance, Pam gets thrown across a bar, a war between humans and vampires is coming and Bill sinks his teeth into Sookie in the bedroom. Clearly, the Comic-Con audience was wowed.

After the Comic-Con trailer rolled, "True Blood" cast members Alexander Skarsgard (Eric), Christopher Meloni (Roman), Kristin Bauer (Pam), Ryan Kwanten (Jason), Sam Trammell (Sam), Rutina Wesley (Tara), Joe Manganiello (Alcide), Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica), Stephen Moyer (Bill) and a very pregnant Anna Paquin (Sookie) joined Ball on stage.

Wesley told the Comic-Con crowd it's an "overall joy" to play "a new baby vampire" on "True Blood" this season, according to HitFix, noting she's gotten to show her "more leathery side." After talking about her new burlesque gig, "Magic Mike" star Manganiello couldn't help but show off his moves, as did Ball, which led Manganiello to throw a dollar at him.

But back to the show. "It's been an incredible journey," Wesley said via Digital Spy later in the panel. "If you'd asked me four years ago, I would never have thought my character would be turned. So it's been terrifying but awesome!"

Is there more to come for Sam and Luna? Sam Trammell stayed tight-lipped about his character after last week's Luna cliffhanger. "You know I can't tell you that," he said.

Meloni talked about the differences between "True Blood" and "Law and Order: SVU." "Trying to figure out what a sex crime is on this show is very different," Meloni joked via EW. "It's an interesting world. I never heard of a were panther."

When a fan later asked him if he would return for the finale of "SVU," Meloni replied, "I'm always willing to consider ... There's no bad blood there, so we'll see it as it comes. I don't know. It's still doing OK, I guess.'

Back to "True Blood" Season 5 ... viewers will find out more about the Stackhouse family. "We're going to learn a little bit more about Michelle and Corbett Stackhouse, what happened to them and the remaining effect on Sookie and particularly Jason," Ball said.

As for sex scenes, Manganiello said, "I sexually eviscerate another character in one of the episodes coming up."
Ball confirmed that in the upcoming sex scenes "all tastes will be satisfied." Besides what goes on in the bedroom, Ball said three romances will happen this season.

And what about the Season 5 finale of "True Blood"? Fans won't be disappointed, according to Paquin:

Since Ball has stepped down as showrunner for Season 6, Moyer and the cast ended the panel by paying tribute to him, as did the crowd.

True Blood

Alan Ball, in his last season as showrunner, gets a standing ovation from the crowd.

"If I wasn't so old and tired and so beat up I would do more seasons of this show," Ball said. "It's the most fun I've had in my career."

"True Blood" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.

'Culture of abuse' at India's children's care homes

NEW DELHI // A series of sex-abuse scandals at orphanages and shelters has sounded alarms over the management of children's homes in India, many of which operate with little or no public oversight.

Criminal charges against staff at a number of homes have highlighted what activists say is a pervasive culture of violence that begins with carers abusing their wards and ends with older children assaulting younger children.

In a case that attracted national media attention, a post-mortem examination on an 11-year-old girl who died of vomiting and diarrhoea in a home in Delhi last December showed that she had also been repeatedly sexually abused.

Police opened an investigation into the running of the Arya Anathalaya home and requested the assistance of a non-profit organisation, the Haq Centre for Child Rights.

"Our first impression was that it was a clean, big place, with well-fed kids," said Bharti Ali, the co-founder of the Haq centre.

"Then we spoke to the children and many told us they got beaten up regularly by the wardens."

The Haq centre recommended a series of institutional changes, all of which were rejected by the Arya Anathalaya management.

Police have since filed rape charges against a 25-year-old security guard at the home as well as a 14-year-old boy ward. Both have maintained their innocence.

In May this year, a team from the National Council for the Protection of Child Rights inspected another children's shelter just outside New Delhi where they uncovered what their report described as a "reign of terror".

The report detailed allegations of sexual molestation by staff, regular beatings and psychological abuse.

The shelter was closed down and seven people arrested, including the owner and her son-in-law.

India has a poor record of investigating and sentencing those implicated in child-abuse cases.

In the most high-profile verdict, two British men were jailed for six years in March last year - 10 years after charges were filed - for abusing several young boys at a children's shelter they ran in Mumbai.

Anant Kumar Asthana, a lawyer who advises juvenile homes on legal compliance, said India is home to a large number of institutions that operate with virtually no oversight.

"The total number of institutions with children is impossible to quantify, because so many evade classification. They just run things on their own," he said.

India's 2000 Juvenile Justice Act provides a road map for management to tackle abuse taking place inside institutions, but many privately run homes are not registered.

According to Mr Asthana, the problem is compounded by the absence of well-trained and educated staff. "The counsellors, field workers who work with children, many of them haven't even finished high school. They are easily overwhelmed when kids misbehave," he said.

"They think it's good to instil fear or the children won't listen to you," he said. "When a child misbehaves, other kids are encouraged to hit him as punishment."

While many children in the homes are orphans, a sizeable number are also from families with an absent father and a mother who has to work and cannot provide adequate care.

That was the case with the 11-year-old girl who died in the Arya Anathalaya home in December. She was placed in the home four years ago by her mother, Puja, 24 at the time, who, with three other children, felt unable to cope after her husband walked out on the family.

"I was at work all the time and my girls had to go and come from school on their own. I just didn't think they would be safe," said Puja.

Krinna Shah, a social worker for 17 years and a former member of a child welfare committee in east Delhi, said the system was broken.

"There is no effort to protect children at all. And when something goes wrong, the option is usually to displace the kid further. Instead, the management should be removed," she said.

She spoke about a case when she recommended the closure of a shelter in Delhi where children were not given adequate clothing or bathed properly, but her suggestions were ignored by senior government officials.

"The state is happy giving licences to NGOs, because then they don't have to take care of the kids themselves," she said.

Where abuse does occur, the children are often extremely fearful and reluctant to approach anyone with complaints, and critics say current legislation does not have stringent enough provisions to tackle the problem.

In the case of the Arya Anathalaya home, a court-appointed judicial committee comprising a district judge and two social workers visited the shelter.

Their report, filed in May, said the home was functioning well and no further action was required.

In 2009, a five-year-old girl said she had been attacked at Arya Anathalaya and a medical examination established that she had been sexually abused.

Nitinjay Chaudhry, the director of the home, insisted that the allegations were fabricated.

"She was not abused. It didn't happen," he said, arguing that the "fantastical" charges were part of a conspiracy to destroy the institution and take over the sprawling property on which it stands.

Credit Negotiation With Local Bank Loans

9:00 AM By Article Directory

'; div.innerHTML = summary; } //]]> Credit Negotiation With Local Bank Loans Credit Negotiation With Local Bank Loans

Whether you are an individual or a small business owner, you might have loans from your local bank. Securing a loan from your local bank can be a terrific alternative to trying to secure a loan with a major credit provider. You have more personalized attention, and you probably have a relationship with someone at the bank that understands your interest and goals better than a major credit institution.

If there have been some bumps along the way with regards to your financial situation, you might be having trouble repaying those loans. Here's where good credit negotiation skills can work in your favor. Keep reading to find out how you can use a few credit negotiation strategies to hold onto your loans, and maybe even get better rates and terms!

3 Credit Negotiation Strategies

Be open in your communications. Most of the issues that arise between small banks and borrowers come about as the direct result of poor communication. If you are having trouble repaying your loan, or if your personal/business financial situation has taken a turn for the worse, letting your lender know as soon as possible can take you a long way. When a bank knows you're being honest and upfront, they are far more likely to help you out. All creditors want to get paid.
Come up with a plan. When you show initiative, people will listen. Offer a plan that is realistic and beneficial for both you and the bank as an alternative to your current loan situation. If you understand the bank's interests, demonstrate this knowledge, and offer a way to meet their interests, you will probably impress your bank, and hang onto your loans! Keep that loan performing!
Shoot for restructuring! Most likely, restructuring your loans is the most effective credit negotiation strategy available to you. Get a better interest rate. Extend the life of the loan. Try to get forgiveness on past-due interest if things are really desperate. You have a lot of options for restructuring, pick one or a few and propose them to the bank. If you've been following credit negotiation strategies one and two, the bank might even be willing to offer some restructuring strategies to you on their own initiative.

Most all of the time, going through credit negotiations with a local bank instead of a major credit institution can be a fruitful process. Follow these three strategies with your loans, and you'll probably find success is easier than you would have thought possible!
